Girls Water Warriors Fall to DeKalb The Sterling Lady Water Warriors hosted DeKalb at the Duis on Thursday night. DeKalb took the lead right from the start and defeated Sterling 102-81. “DeKalb came out tough on the first event and kept the momentum going throughout the night. The closest we got to them was a three point deficit and that was diving that got us so close at that point.” Dekalb won 10 out of the 12 Varsity events. The 200 Medley relay team of Ellie Eshleman, Mary Wolber, Hannah Moore and Ann Moore placed 2nd in 2:03.89 with the team of Meredith Miller, Lauren Wiersema, Autumn Alls and Madison Henry placing 3rd in 2:16.00. In the 200 Free Brittany Cox was Sterling’s top finisher placing 3rd in 2:16.43 with Brianna Henard placing 4th (2:21.14) and Allison Fassler placing 6th (2:30.00). In the 200 IM, DeKalb took 1st and 2nd with Eshleman placing 3rd in 2:18.14, Moore in 4th (2:24.83) and Henry 5th (2:42.90). In the 50 Free Ann Wolber placed 2nd (26.33) with Allison Carbaugh in 4th (28.19) and Renee Rodriguez 6th (32.13). “Madison Henry had a great night. She was 3rd person for us in both the 200 IM and the 500 Free and she scored in both events tonight.” The Sterling divers took 1,2,3 with Ashley Mendoza leading the team, followed by Whitney Pitsch and Emily Hammett respectively. The 100 Fly was the only other event Sterling won with Moore leading in 1:04.65. Mary Wolber placed 4th (1:05.95) and Autumn Alls in 6th (1:21.64). In the 100 Free Ann Wolber placed 2nd (56.82), Allison Carbaugh placed 3rd (1:01.69) and Renee Rodriguez placed 6th 1:13.05. Bri Henard lead the way for Sterling in the 500 Free with a personal best time of 6:02.00 placing 2nd followed by Cox in 6:11.93 and Henry in 5th in a personal best time of 6:23.52. “Our 500 Free looked good tonight. We have 3 Freshman swimming that event right now and they have done a great job working in practice to cut time.” In the 200 Free Relay, Sterling took 2nd and 4th. The 100 Back was a battle to the wall. Eshleman was touched out by Dekalb going 1:03.52 with Miller placing 3rd (1:06.86) and Alls placing 6th in 1:17.97. In the 100 Breast Mary Wolber (1:18.50) and Wiersema (1:19.65) took 2-3 with Allison Fassler placing 6th (1:24.84). The 400 Free relay team of Ann Wolber, Moore, Carbaugh and Eshleman placed 2nd in 3:52.55 and the team of Cox, Henry, Henard and Rachel Linton placing 4th in 4:32.19. Dekalb won the JV competition 94-63. Top finishers for the Warriors were Lauren Wiersema (200 Free), Meredith Miller (200 IM), and Shayna Swanson (1:21.92). Sterling will host Morrison at the Duis Center on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
