Girls Cross Country Completes Conference Three-Peat The Sterling Girls Cross Country team was looking to triple its pleasure by winning the NCIC Championship Meet for the third straight year on October 15 – and that’s exactly what they did. The Warriors placed three runners in the top 10 and five in the top 25, totaling 60 points, 31 ahead of runner-up Dixon. As has been the case most of the year, senior and four-year standout Megan Fliss paced the Warrior effort with a time of 18:50 over the three-mile course at Centennial Park in Rock Falls. Fliss’ effort was good enough for third place individually. Juniors Jaclyn Sciacero (8 th) and Devon Carbaugh (9 th) joined Fliss in the top 10 with times of 19:54 and 19:55 respectively. Also placing for the Warriors were Freshman Kelsey Scanlan (17 th, 20:28), Freshman Kathryn Gehrke (25 th 20:59), Sophomore Kayla Jacobs (26 th, 21:03), and Freshman Gabrielle Clark (44 th, 21:56) Sterling will be one of the teams to beat at this weekend’s class-AA Moline Regional. The top five teams advance to the East Peoria Sectional October 29.
