Sterling Football Beats #1 Metamora The Sterling High School football team opened the season in fine fashion on Friday, traveling to Metamora and handing the number one ranked Redbirds a 34-20 defeat in front of an estimated crowd of over 4500. After falling behind 7-0 and 14-7, Sterling realed off three unanswred touchdowns to take a 28-14 lead early in the 4th quarter. The Golden Warrior "D" held the high-powred Redbird offense to just two first downs and 35 yards of total offense in the second and third quarters combined. Sterling was lead by senior running back Christian Temiquel who accounted for 215 all purpose yards (104 rushing, 19 receiving and 73 on kickoff returns). Temiquel also scored a pair of touchdowns. The first on a 19 yard pass from quarterback Sean Bright that tied the game at 14. The second on a 42 yard run that gave Sterling the lead for good midway through the second quarter. Fellow senior Graham Hall rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns - including a 53 yarder that tied the game at 7. In two games against Metamora, Hall has rushed for 288 yards and 7 touchdowns. Bright also had a solid night running the Golden Warrior offense, rushing for 73 yards and completing 4 of 8 pass attempts for another 59 yards. Sterling will try to make it back to back road wins to start the season Friday night (9/2) when they play at Peoria (Notre Dame). The game will be played at Richwoods Stadium. Sterling Vs.
