No Contest Against Blue Island Eisenhower It was another week of offensive fireworks for Sterling Football, as the Golden Warriors rolled up 436 yards of total offense in a 67-14 shellacking of Blue Island (Eisenhower) on September 9. Sterling fumbled on its first drive and then scored touchdowns 9 of its next 11 possessions. The non-scoring drives ended on kneel-downs at the end of the first and second halves. For the second straight game Sterling did not have to punt. QB Sean Bright sparked Sterling’s offense early by rushing for a team leading 87 yards, including TD runs of 3 and 57 yards, and passing for another 60, including a 42 yard scoring toss to Christian Temiquel. Sterling’s starters played a little over one quarter, but the reserves continued the onslaught as Mason Temiquel (twice), Dan Megli, Lazaro Sifuentes (twice) and Jake Hermes would all find the end zone. Hermes scored on a nifty 75 yard kick off return in the third quarter – Sterling’s first special teams touchdown in exactly three years. The Warrior “D” forced six Eisenhower turnovers, including five interceptions. Sterling, now ranked 4 th in the state in class 5A, takes its undefeated record into the conference opener September 16 at Roscoe Eades Stadium against Ottawa.
