Wrestling:  Curtis Lilly Wins 285 Title at NIB-12 Meet

Junior Curtis Lilly was Sterling’s lone individual champion at the NIB-12 Wrestling Meet Saturday in Ottawa. 

At 285, Lilly won his quarterfinal match by default, the downed Michael Halverson of DeKalb 5-1 in the semi-finals.  In the title match, Lilly (25-6) made short work of Yorkville’s Seth Gonzealez, winning by fall in just 52 seconds.

Sterling had three other place winners.  Josh Villarreal (21-13) was fourth at 182, Trever Zinke (25-6) fifth at 220 and Zack Depuy (15-12) sixth at 106.

Sterling finished tenth in the team standings with 57 points.  Sycamore won the team title with 222.50 points, with Yorkville a close second with 220.

Next Up:  Sterling competes in the NIB-12 Sophomore meet January 28, before beginning IHSA post-season competition at the Geneseo 2A Regional February 4.
