Boys Basketball: Warriors Cruise Past Pirates The SHS Boys’ Basketball team remained in the hunt for the NIB-12 West championship with a convincing 73-47 win over the Ottawa Pirates Tuesday at Musgrove Fieldhouse. Sterling (11-11, 5-2) trailed 17-16 midway through the second quarter, but used an 8-0 run to take the lead for good at 24-17. The Warriors led by 10 (33-23) at halftime and by 20 (54-34) after three. Senior Patrick Petrosky paced Sterling with 19 points (8-9 FG). Chris Fritch posted his 10th double-double of the season with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Jose Knox tallied 11, and Alejandro Rivera just missed a double-double with eight points and 11 rebounds. Sterling has now won 13 of the last 17 meetings with the Pirates. 73 points establishes a new season-high for the Warriors, surpassing the 72 scored against Newman in the season opener. On the sophomore level, Sterling (20-4, 7-0) clinched at least a tie for its fifth straight conference title with a 58-22 win. Next Up: The Golden Warriors travel to Dixon Saturday (2/4) for another conference game. The sophomore contest tips off at 5:30 p.m. |
