Boys Basketball: Fritsch, Petrosky Power Warriors Past LP

Dustin Fritch scored a career-high 24 points and grabbed a career-high 21 rebounds, and Patrick Petrosky scored 13 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter in leading the SHS Boys Basketball team to a 59-54 NIB-12 West win over LaSalle-Peru Friday at Musgrove Fieldhouse. Halfway through the conference season, Sterling and LP are tied for first place.
Sterling (9-8, 4-1) trailed 35-29 at halftime and by as many as nine in the first half, but caught fire in the third. LP scored the first two points of the third quarter, before the Warriors went on an 18-1 run to open a 47-38 lead early in the fourth quarter.
LP (5-9, 4-1) then rallied behind the outside shooting of Noah Lamboley. The sophomore hit four 3-pointers in the final quarter, as LP was able to retake the lead at 54-53 on a basket from Jens Soderholm. The Cavaliers would not score again.
Fritch and Petrosky both split a pair of free throws to give the Warriors a 55-54 lead. Petrosky then hit a pair of baskets in the final minute to give the Warriors the final margin of victory.
Sterling turned the ball over 18 times, but only four times the entire second half. The Warriors dominated the rebounding battle 55-35.
On the sophomore level, Sterling improved to 16-3 overall and 5-0 in the conference with a 62-55 win.
