Boys Basketball:  Warriors Win at Ottawa

The SHS Boys’ Basketball team passed its first true road test of the season Friday, traveling to Ottawa and recording a 58-51 NIB-12 West win over the Pirates at Kingman Gym.

Sterling (6-3, 3-0) used a 14-0 first half run to take on eight point lead, but could not put Ottawa away.  The Pirates took the lead (44-42) early in the fourth quarter, but the Golden Warriors responded with an 11-2 run to regain control.

Patrick Petrosky paced Sterling with 18 points.  Chris Fritch recorded his third double-double of the season for the Warriors with 16 points and 11 rebounds.  Jose Knox dished out a career-high nine assist for the Warriors.

Sterling and LaSalle-Peru are tied for the conference lead at 3-0.  The Golden Warriors next conference game is January 6 at Streator.

Next Up:  The Golden Warriors travel to Galesburg Tuesday (12/20) for a non-conference game, before beginning play at the DeKalb Holiday Tournament Thursday at 3:30 p.m. against Machesney Park-Harlem.  Sterling will then play Sycamore (Fri., 4:30 p.m.) and Aurora-Marmion (Mon. (12/26), 1:30 p.m.) to round out pool play in the tournament.
