Cross Country:  Warriors Host 62nd Annual Sterling Invitational

Sterling High School hosted the 62nd annual Sterling Invitational at Hoover Park on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011.There were 32 teams and 1200 runners racing in a total of 6 races.

The Boys' Varsity race was won in 15.12 by Joey Santillo of Minooka High School. The top local runner was Dylan Harkness of Sterling High School in 15:45 (new personal best time) for 13th place of 157 runners.

The top Boys' Varsity team was Schaumburg High School with 67 points, followed by Minooka High School with 83 points, and Conant with 94 points. There were a total of 24 complete Boys' Varsity Teams.  Rock Falls finished in 14th and Sterling in 18th.

The Boys' Freshman/Sophomore race was won by Tyler Rasso of United Township in 15.44. The top local runner was Keaton Dir (Sterling) at 17:23 in 20th place of 127 runners in this race.

The first place team was United Township High School with 39, points followed by Pleasant Valley High School in 95 points. The Sterling F/S boys were 10th  of 17 teams.

The Open Boys Race featured 185 runners.

The Girls' Varsity race was won in 17.24 by Kelsey Hjorth of Oswego High School. The top local finisher was freshman Mercedes Sanchez of Sterling High School in 19:37 in 40th place of 169 runners.

The first place Girls' Team was Hoffman Estates with 71 points, followed by Pleasant Valley with 72 points of 24 girls teams. Rock Falls finished 13th and Sterling High School placed 21st.

The Girls' Freshman-Sophomore race was won by Victoria Clinton of Kaneland in 18.57 of 107 runners.

The first place team was Pleasant Valley High School with 85 points, followed by Minooka High School with 88 points. There were 14 teams, and Rock Falls finished 14th.

The Girls' Open Race was won by Brianna Anderson of Hoffman Estates in 19.59 with 204 runners. The top local open race runner was Yessenia Cano of Sterling High School in 21:44.

Other Sterling runners: Carrie McPherson was 116 in 21:33, Emily Crossley 120 in 21:40, Alayna 135 in 22:26, Liz Welsch 142 in 22:59, Shawna Anderson 148 in 23:34, Mary Francque 145 in 23:20, Charisma Martinez 26:00 and Paola Cano 25:19.

SHS Boys: Josh Landis 64th in 17:06, Matthew Dirks 91st in 17:45, Doug Mikan in 21:08, Chris Mackey in 18:46, Chandler Allen in 23:55, Zach Alston in 18:02, Ethan Rocha in 18:13, Dakota Trancoso in 18:16, Hunter Wolfe in 19:21.
