Cross Country:  Warriors Host Rock River Run

Complete Girls and Boys Results

The SHS Girls and Boys’ Cross Country teams hosted the annual Rock River Run Saturday at Hoover Park. There were 777 competing runners.

The highlights for Sterling were: 1) the number one finish in the fresh/soph girls race from freshman Mercedes Sanchez, who clocked in with a time of 19:33; and 2) the fresh/soph boys team running to a second place finish.

Sterling runners earning medals were: Freshman Girls: Mercedes Sanchez, 1st place, Freshman Boys: Ethan Rocha #7 in 17:27, Isaac Anderson #10 in 17:40, Zach Alston #12 in 17:50, amd Sophomore boys of Keaton Dir #13 in 17:50 and Dakota Trancoso #27 at 18:48.

The only Junior or Senior receiving a medal was Dylan Harkness (#7) in 16:06 in the Boys' Varsity Race.

Other scoring runners in the Varsity Boys Race were Seniors Josh Landis and Matthew Dirks. placing in #32 and #58.

The first Sterling varsity girl was Emily Crossley placing in #68, followed by Caroline McPherson in #80, and Yessenia Cano in #86.

Next Up:  Both squads host a quadrangular with Rock Island, United Township and Moline Tuesday (9/27) at Hoover Park.  Action begins at 4:30 p.m.
