Football: Warriors Dump DeKalb on Homecoming Night The SHS Football team jumped out to a 27-0 halftime lead and then withstood a second half DeKalb Barbs’ rally to record a 40-26 win on Homecoming night Friday at Roscoe Eades Stadium. Sterling (3-1, 1-0 NIB-12 West) scored on four of its five possessions in the first half, with Allan Lewis (25 yards), Alejandro Rivera (24 yards), Dylan Stingley (37 yards) and Marcus Robinson (1 yard) all scoring rushing touchdowns. The Golden Warriors rushed for 236 yards in the first half. DeKalb (2-2) took advantage of a few Sterling mistakes (2 drive sustaining 15 yard penalties, and 2 fumbles) to pull within 27-20 early in the fourth quarter, but the Golden Warriors responded. Following DeKalb’s third touchdown, Rivera returned the ensuing kickoff 56 yards to the DeKalb 27. Sterling then converted on fourth and three with a five yard run from Treyvon Solis. On the next play, Stingley found a wide open Dylan Pierceson with for a 15 yard touchdown pass to push the lead back to 14. Sterling’s defense then forced a DeKalb punt, and two plays later, Robinson delivered the backbreaker with a 64 yard touchdown scamper to make it 40-20. Sterling rushed for 406 yards as a team, with Robinson (130) and Rivera (112) both going over the 100-yard mark individually. Solis just missed his second straight 100+ yard effort with 97 yards. The Golden Warriors did not punt all game long. DeKalb won the sophomore contest 25-7. Next Up: The Golden Warriors travel to Sycamore to take on the undefeated Spartans Friday (9/23). Sterling lost to Sycamore 30-5 last season. |
