Cross Country:  Girls’ and Boys’ Qualify for Sectionals

The SHS Girls and Boys Cross Country teams have both qualified sectionals.  Competing at the Sterling 2A Regional Saturday at Hoover Park, the Golden Warrior girls moved on with a seventh place finish, while the boys punched their sectional ticket with a fifth place effort.  Marengo was the girls’ regional champion with 31 points.  Belvidere-North was the winner on the boys’ side  (21 points) with four of the top five place winners.

For the girls, freshman Mercedes Sanchez was Sterling’s top runner, finishing in 14th place overall in a time of 19:17 – a personal best by 15 seconds.

Senior Dylan Harkness was the top runner for the Warrior boys, finishing in sixth place overall with a time of 15:47.

Next Up:  Both squads compete at the Belvidere 2A Sectional Saturday (10/29).  The girls race is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., with the boys race to follow at 11:00.  Teams and individuals are competing for spots at the IHSA State Finals in Peoria on November 5.
