Cross Country:  Girls, Boys Place 2nd at Ottawa

The SHS Girls’ and Boys’ Cross Country teams competed in a six-team invitational hosted by Ottawa Tuesday at Catlin Park.  Both Sterling squads ran to second place finishes.

The boys final standings were: Marquette 46, Sterling 51, LaSalle/Peru 86, Ottawa 90, Plano 102 and Seneca 154.

The first boy to complete the course was Dylan Harkness (16.46) of Sterling, 29 seconds in front of the number 2 runner.  #2: Vincent Walker (17.15) of LP, #3: Ja Weissensel (17.25) of Marquette, #4 Hill (17.30) of Marquette and #5: Armstrong (17.55) of Ottawa.

For Sterling, the number 6 runner was Josh Landis-sr; number 12 runner was Keaton Dir-so; number 15 Matthew Dirks-sr; number 17 Ehan Rocha-fr; number 18 Zach Alston-fr; and thee last scoring runner for Sterling was Dakota Trnacoso-so in number 35 (Dakota is just returning from being out for 10 days). There were 63 runners in the race.

The final girls standings were as follows: Marquette 31, Sterling High School 58, Seneca 59, Ottawa 96, LaSalle/Peru 134, and Plano didn't have a complete team.

The first girl to complete the 3-mile course was Savannah Baldauf (20.34) of Seneca, followed by Mercedes Sanchez-fr (21.32) of Stelring High School.  #3: Caroline Collet (21.38) of Seneca, #4: Oliva Rhoades (21.40)  of Marquette, #5: Dani Aurit (21.42) of Marquette.

Sterling runners in the next scoring places were: #11 Caroline McPherson-sr, #12 Emily Crossley-jr, #16 Alayna Wolfe-jr, #19 Mary Francque-jr, #23 Shawna Anderson-sr and #27 Yessenia Cano-jr.  There were 46 female runners in the race representing 6 teams.

Next Up:  Both squads host the annual Rock River Run Saturday (9/24) at Hoover Park.  Races begin at 9:00 a.m.
