Cross Country:  Warriors Compete at Geneseo Invitational

The SHS Girls’ and Boys’ Cross Country teams ran and girls ran the Geneseo Invitational Saturday against the following teams: LaSalle-Peru, Riverdale, Rock Island, Morris, Geneseo, North Scott, Ottawa, Moline, Davenport West, United Township and Streator.
This invitational has a different format in that each class runs in a race to compete with only their class. There are 8 races, one for each grade of boys and girls.

The SHS junior girls had a 3rd place finish. These girls included: Mary Franque, Emily Crossley, Alayna Wolfe and Yessenia Cano. The next highest team places went to the Freshman boys and Senior boys both placing 4th of 11 teams. The Freshman runners were: Isaac Anderson, Ethan Rocha, Zach Alston. The Senior boys were Dylan Harkness, Josh Landis and Matthew Dirks.

The top placing boys runner for Sterling in the meet was Dylan Harkness, who was 5th for the seniors and his time was 11th overall in the meet.

The top placing female runner for Sterling in the meet was Mercedes Sanchez, who was first for the freshman and her time was 4th overall in the meet of all the freshman through senior runners.

Next Up:  Both squads travel to Ottawa Tuesday (9/20) for duel meets.  Action gets underway at 4:30 p.m.
