Girls Track: Warriors 2nd at NIB-12 Meet Complete Results The first-ever NIB-12 Girls’ Track and Field Championship Meet will go down as a memorable one. The meet began at Kaneland High School, but when the lights malfunctioned there, the final six events of the night were moved to Sycamore High School, some 15 miles away. The meet lasted until after midnight, when Geneseo was finally crowned conference champion, winning easily with 131 points. The battle for second was very close, but Sterling claimed runner-up honors with 82 points, two better than Kaneland. Just six points separated second through sixth place. Sterling earned second place despite not winning any events. The Golden Warriors did get two second place efforts. Individually, senior Alisha Weir was second in the shot put with a toss of 32-9. The Warriors 4x100 relay team of Nicole Renner, Carly Willman, Payton Cater and Mariza Trancoso was also second with a time of 51.54. Sophomore Krista Loos was third in the 100 hurdles (16.51) and fourth in both the 300 hurdles (50.80) and high jump (4-10). Senior Sarah Schneiderbauer was fourth in the long jump (16-8) and sixth in the 100 hurdles (17.94). Sophomore Lauren Zuidema took fourth in the pole vault (9-0), while teammate Emily Porter (8-6) was sixth. Cori Delap was third in the discus (99-8.5). Sterling’s three other relay teams placed as follows: Final Varsity Team Standings (top 6) Next Up: The Golden Warriors compete at the IHSA 2A Sectional in Ottawa Thursday (5/12) with action beginning at 4:00 p.m. |
