Boys Track: Hartz Sets 400 Record, Warriors 4th at Harlem After tying the school record in the 100 meter dash earlier this season, senior Corey Hartz now has an SHS record all to himself. Competing at the Northern Illinois Invitational at Harlem High School in Machesney Park Friday, Hartz set a new school record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.25. The previous record was 49.37, set by Ryan Ptak in 1999. Hartz’ record-setting performance in the 400 was Sterling’s only win of the night, but the Warriors did manage to battle their way to a fourth place finish in a strong 12-team field. United Township, a week after winning the Sterling Night Relays, easily topped the field with 140 points, followed by Hononegah (75), Schaumburg (61.33) and the Golden Warriors (58). Sterling received strong second place efforts from Dylan Harkness in the 1600 (4:33.73) and Mike Schneiderbaur in the pole vault (13-0). Hartz also added a third place finish in the 100 (11.16). Sterling’s 4x400 and 4x800 relays teams also placed second with times of 3:28.64 and 8:26.03 respectively. Aaron Brenner, Alex Rodriguez, Alejandro Rivera and Kyle Mason were on the 4x400 team. Harkness and Robert Clifton joined Rivera and Brenner on the 4x800 team. Next Up: The Golden Warriors now get ready for the first-ever NIB-12 Championship Meet Friday (5/13) in Ottawa. Action begins at 4:00 p.m. |
