Girls Swimming:  Warriors Down Ottawa, Morris To Open the Season

The SHS Girls’ Swimming and Diving opened the new season under new co-coaches Jaime Rodriguez and Kyle Ruiz Tuesday with a triangular win over Morris and Ottawa.  The Water Warriors won 10 events and tallied 150 points.  Morris was second with 97 and Ottawa third with 78.

Sterling went 1-2 in three events.  Senior Hannah Munson claimed top honors in the 200 freestyle (2:26.02) and senior teammate Alix Corwell placed second (2:38.05.)  In the 100 fly, Sarah Wolber was first (1:09.07) and Abbie Brenner second (1:17.86.)  Brenner then won the 400 freestyle (5:07.11), with teammate Rachel Lathe in second (5:11.13.)

Munson also won the 100 freestyle (1:03.46) and Wolber the 200 IM (2:26.82).  Sterling also received individual wins from Lauren Vos in the 50 freestyle (30.83) and Charli Wike in the 100 breast (1:23.88.)

Sterling swept the three relay events:
200 medley relay, 2:13.97: Wike, Lathe, Wolber, Munson
200 free relay, 2:09.46: Demi Reitzel, Kema Malki, Kayla McCawley, MacKenzie Vogel
400 free relay, 4:23.48: Wolber, Wike, Lathe, Munson

Next Up:  Sterling “hosts” the 6th Annual Water Warrior Invitational Saturday (9/4) at Lincolnway East High School.  The meet is at Lincolnway East because Sterling’s home pool at the Duis Center is under construction all season.
