Boys Soccer:  Warriors Fall at Rock Island

The SHS Boys’ Soccer team opened the season with a 5-0 loss at Rock Island Wednesday.

Head Coach Chris Interone provides a recap:  “In the first half Rock Island got a good lead with 3 goals. They have fast attackers as well as fast defenders. We managed to get some counter attacks, but the defense didn't allow us to get quality shots, making it easy for their keeper to make the save. Salomon Ocampo had the most shots at net for Sterling, but couldn't get one to go in. Rock Island only had a couple more shots on net than us, however their forwards were strong finishers and almost everything was on frame (on goal). This was a test for our new goalie, senior Kyle Mason. For someone who hasn't played high school soccer, and has never played the goalkeeper position, he did really well against a good team.  I only see things getting better for him.”

On the frosh-soph level, Sterling lost 4-1 with freshman Conrado Solis netting the lone Golden Warrior tally.

Next Up:  The Warriors compete at the Rockford Auburn Invite Friday and Saturday.
