Girls Basketball: Warriors Crush Cavs The SHS Girls Basketball team completed a perfect run through four conference road games in seven days with a dominating 70-25 win at LaSalle-Peru Monday. The Golden Warriors are now 19-8 overall and 8-1 in the NCIC-Reagan. They can clinch their eighth conference title in the last 10 years with home-courts wins over Ottawa (2/5) and Dixon (2/9). Monday’s game was tight through the first four minutes, with the score tied 7-7. Sterling then exploded, scoring 47 of the game’s next 55 points to take a commanding 54-15 lead near the end of the third quarter. The 70 points is a season-high for the Golden Warriors, as five players scored at least eight points, led by Lauren Hernandez with 18. Aleena Hammelman recorded her third double-double of the season with 13-points and 12-rebounds, she also had three assists and six steals. Jamie Rehmert had 12-points and eight rebounds, while both Sloane Wolfe and Angie Minnick tallied eight points. Sterling outrebounded LP 41-23 and forced 29 Lady Cavalier turnovers, with 21 coming on steals. The win upped Sterling's record in road games this season to a perfect 8-0. On the sophomore level, Sterling downed LP 45-41, to match the varsity’s 8-1 conference record. Next Up: The Warriors host Ottawa Friday (2/5) at Musgrove Fieldhouse beginning at 6:00 p.m. It is game-1 of a girls-boys varsity double-header. |
