Girls Cross Country: Warriors Host Freshmen/JV Invite The SHS Girls Cross Country team hosted its annual Freshmen/Junior Varsity Invitational Tuesday at Hoover Park. Alayna Wolfe won the freshmen race with a time of 22:54. Sky Arenz placed 3rd in the freshmen race with a time of 27:22. Sterling Girls Assistant Coach Cheryl Riordan was impressed with the way the girls kept themselves in race-mode, considering there were only three girls in the freshmen race. The JV girls also had an impressive day, with three girls making the top 10 and receiving medals. Liz Welch placed 2nd with a time of 21:57, which is her best time ever. Kaitlyn Bradley was right on her heels in 3rd place with a time of 22:02, also her best time ever. Coach Riordan was quite impressed with the way those two girls worked together throughout the race. Kairee Brown rounded out Sterling's showing in the top 10 with a time of 23:35, which is her season best time. She placed 7th. Also competing for Sterling was Charisma Martinez, who placed 14th with a time of 26 minutes. Coach Riordan: "I'm extremely proud of the JV girls! Typically, Sterling girls do quite well in this meet, and today was no exception. We now look forward to a strong showing at regionals." Next Up: Sterling begins IHSA post-season action Saturday (10/24), running at the Galesburg 2A regional at Lake Storey Park. |
