Girls Cross Country:  Warriors Sweep Quadrangular

The SHS Girls Cross Country team took first place in a quadrangular with Moline, Rock Island and United Township Tuesday at Hoover Park in Sterling.  The Golden Warriors tallied 43 points, followed by Rock Island (51), Moline (58) and UT (75).

“The girls won this meet with their persistance and team work,” said SHS Coach Nancy Gehrke. “Rock Island had the first three finishers in the meet, but Sterling had 10 runners in before they had runner number four finish.  Moline didn't bring their fastest runner to compete, however, Sterling scored well enough to have overcome that score had she been running.  United Township's first runner was number four overall, but again before their third runner came in, Sterling had 10 runners finish the race.”

Sterling had 10 runners finish with 1:24 of one another.  The Warriors have had five different runners win races this season.  “These two factors speak highly for what the season could bring for these girls with continued team work and effort,” said Gehrke.  “These girls turned out six season best times tonight despite having 12 of 18 runners racing to best times just three days ago.”
