Football: Warriors Fall at Washington Boxscore The SHS Football team’s run in the class 5A playoffs ended after a 28-21 second round loss at Washington Saturday. Sterling jumped out to a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter on a 57-yard run by Corey Hartz and a two-yard run by Corey Judd. Judd’s run capped off a nine-play, 70-yard scoring drive. Washington, led by sophomore quarterback Isaac Fisher, responded by scoring the games next 28 points. Fisher (19-25, 277 yards) passed for three touchdowns and rushed for another during the Panther’s scoring surge. Down 28-14 late in the fourth quarter, Sterling received a chance when Washington fumbled the ball away. Sterling marched down the field and score on a Drew Neubauer to Anthony Adamson 37 yard touchdown pass. Down 28-21 with less than a minute to play, Sterling was forced to attempt an onside kick. Soloman Ocompo’s kick bounced away from a Washington defender, but with Golden Warriors ready to pounce on the football, it trickled out of bounds, giving possession to the Panthers. Washington was then able to run out the clock and claim the victory. Washington (11-0) advances on to the quarterfinals and next travels to Joliet Catholic (9-2). Misc. Notes:
