Football:  Warriors Rout Streator for Fourth Straight Win

The SHS Football team spotted Streator a 7-0 lead, then rattled off 50 unanswered points in 56-21 NCIC-Reagan win over the Bulldogs Friday in Streator.

Streator (2-5, 0-4 NCIC-R) marched 70 yards in 10 plays on the games’ opening possession, scoring a touchdown on a fourth down pass play to grab an early 7-0 lead.

Sterling (5-2, 3-1) scored three plays later when Corey Judd took a handoff and raced 53 yards for a touchdown.  Sterling took an 8-7 lead when extra point holder Andrew Trobaugh bobbled the snap, but picked the loose ball up and fired a pass towards the end zone, which was caught by Marcos Rivera for an unexpected two-point conversion.

Sterling would score on its next three first-half possessions, with Judd, Ryan Billings and Chevy Bushaw finding the end zone.

The defense capped off the first half scoring when Marcos Rivera stepped in front of a Connor Armstrong pass attempt, picked it off and raced 48 yards for a touchdown and a 36-7 Golden Warrior lead at halftime.

Sterling started the running clock with two third quarter touchdowns.  The first on Drew Neubauer to Dylan Eilers pass that covered 40 yards.  The second on a dazzling 80-yard touchdown run by junior speedster Corey Hartz.

Streator scored two touchdowns against Sterling’s back-up defenders before Jordan Lopez capped off the scoring for Sterling with a 40-yard touchdown run.

Both Judd (146) and Hartz (120) rushed for 100+ yards.  It’s the fourth straight week Sterling has had two backs rush for 100 or more yards.

Sterling amassed 437 yards of total offense – 397 of it on the ground.

Sterling also won on the freshman (41-30) and sophomore levels (42-12).

Sterling travels to Dixon (2-5, 1-3) next week, before hosting LaSalle-Peru (6-1, 4-1) in the regular season finale October 23 at Roscoe Eades Stadium.  Sterling, LP and Morris are currently tied for the conference lead – each with one loss.
