Football:  Warriors Rout Ottawa For Second Straight Win

Behind 182 yards rushing from senior Corey Judd and 107 more from junior Corey Hartz, the SHS Football team rolled to its second straight victory Friday – a 35-14 triumph over Ottawa at King Field in Ottawa.

After Ottawa scored a touchdown on its first possession to grab an early 7-0 lead, the Golden Warriors scored 28 unanswered points to take control.

Sterling scored twice in the first half on a pair of Judd touchdown runs – from one and eight yards out respectively.

After leading 14-7 at halftime, Sterling took complete control of the game by scoring on its first two drives of the third quarter.  Sterling ran 14 of the first 17 offensive plays of the second half.

After Ottawa (3-2, 1-1 NCIC-Reagan) scored again early in the fourth quarter, Sterling went on a nine-play 84 yard touchdown march that ate up over five minutes of the clock.  Judd capped off the drive with a one-yard TD plunge – his fourth rushing touchdown of the game - to account for the final margin of victory.

Sterling (3-2, 1-1 NCIC-Reagan) rushed for a season-high 363 yards, while holding Ottawa to just 100 on the ground.  93 of Ottawa’s 222 yards of total offense came on two long passing plays.  The Pirates averaged 2.9 yards on their other 45 offensive plays.  Sterling averaged nearly seven yards per offensive play.

Judd now has 675 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns through five games.

Sterling has beaten Ottawa 10 of the last 12 seasons and 22 of the last 29.  The Golden Warriors have won four straight games played at Ottawa.  Sterling now leads the all-time series 34-32-2.

Sterling also won on the sophomore level (21-20) and the freshmen level (58-44).

Next Up:  Vs. Morris Friday (10/2) at Roscoe Eades Stadium.  Morris is 2-3 overall, but is the only undefeated team (2-0) remaining in the NCIC-Reagan after recording victories over LaSalle-Peru and Geneseo.
