Volleyball: Warriors Place Second in Own Invite The SHS Volleyball team went 4-1 and placed second at the Sterling Invitational, held Saturday at the Westwood Sports and Expo Center. The Warrior cruised through pool play, downing Morrison (20-16, 21-19), Kewanee-Wethersfield (18-20, 20-11, 15-7) and Rockford-Jefferson (20-9, 20-12). Those three wins advanced the Warriors into the semi-finals against Prophetstown. Sterling dropped the first game 14-20, but rallied to take the next two 20-13, 15-13, advancing to the championship game against perennial power Sycamore. The Spartans, who placed third in the 3A state finals last season, made short work of the Warriors 25-5, 25-16. Sterling is now 12-7 for the season. In the frosh-soph division, Sterling captured the championship. The Warriors beat Jefferson, Alleman and Kewanee in pool play , Streator in the semi-finals and Fulton in the title match. |
