Cross Country: Over 1000 runners Compete in Sterling Invitational

Sunny skies and warm temperatures greeted the nearly 1000 runners and 52 teams that took part in the annual Sterling Invitational, held Saturday at Hoover Park.

On the girls side, Schaumberg captured the team title with 65 points. Dixon was third with 135. Sterling placed 16th in the 24-team field with 409.

Carrie McPherson was Sterling’s top finisher in 50th place in a time of 20:12. She was followed by Carissa Apperson (84th), Kelsey Scanlan (88th), Kaylen Palmer (91st), Mary Rose Dukelow (96th), Cecelia Peterson (102nd) and Kathryn Gehrke (108th).

For the boys, Sterling placed 28th with 768 points. Neuqua Valley won the team title with 51. Dixon was 8th with 235.

Sterling’s top finisher was Andrew McCormick in 121st place in a time of 17:58. He was followed by Nathan Castillo (134th), Brad Trevino (159th), Brennen Dir (176th), Max Etielbuss (178th) and Sam Twining (182nd).
