Girls Cross Country:  Warrior Down Geneseo at Grass Relays

The SHS Girls Cross Country team got by Geneseo 23-33 in the annual season-opening Grass Relays Tuesday (9/2) in 90 degree heat at Hoover Park/Woodlawn in Sterling.

In the grass relay format, each team enters a series of two-runner squads that run a six-mile relay.  Each individual runner runs three miles in one-mile increments.

Sterling’s five scoring teams took second, third, fifth, sixth and seventh place overall.

Sterling’s top team of sophomore Kaylen Palmer and junior Carissa Apperson took second place overall in a combined time of 40:38.10.

Here’s how Sterling’s other four scoring teams faired:
