Soccer: Warriors Win Orion Tournament

The SHS Boys Soccer team captured the championship of the Orion Tournament Saturday, recording wins over Monmouth-Roseville, Riverdale and Orion. The Golden Warriors are now 17-2 for the season.

SHS Head Coach Chris Interone provides a recap of the three games:

Vs. Monmouth Roseville: “Monmouth played a   tough game but we got the first goal and steadily we kept scoring which gave us a comfortable lead, beating them 6-0. Raciel Ocampo, Eddie Chavez, and Carlos Medrano all scored two goals a piece with assists coming from Carlos, Raciel and Adan Ortiz.”

Vs. Riverdale: “Sterling had trouble finding   the net in the first half and our first goal was on a penalty kick   taken by Raciel Ocampo. Before the half we managed to score two more times with a goal from Adan Ortiz assisted by Raciel Ocampo and another goal from Raciel assisted by Richard Jackley. In the second half I was able to put in my reserves, a goal from Bruno Rodriguez assisted by Raciel put the score at 4-0 for the remainder of the game.”

Vs. Orion: “They played tough the first half, we scored right away when Eddie Chavez put a pass through the defense to Raciel who was able to find the net. Orion answered back by sending it long to their forward who was able to get a shot on goal and score. We scored again when Rodriguo Alejandro ran the ball up from the back to give a pass to Eddie Chavez who then scored. Again Orion answered right back when they scored off a corner kick.  At the end of the first half we were tied 2-2. Second half was a different story, Eddie was able to put in two more goals giving him the hat trick. And 5 more goals coming from Carlos Medrano assisted by Adan Ortiz, Daniel Monteiro with two (one of them on a direct kick), and Raciel Ocampo and Jose Navarro with a goal a piece, assists coming from Eddie Chavez and Carlos Medrano. Final score was 9-2.”

Ocampo and Medrano made the All-Tournament team for Sterling.
